May 2026 saw a club trip to the island of Noirmoutier in France.

Organised by Mathieu Remy, four divers took up the offer to dive on ten WW1 wrecks

Laying some distance of shore in varying depths up to 40 meters.

An opportunity to dive on untrodden ground by club members.

All the wrecks were well broken up but rcognisable.

Boilers, engines, drive shafts and propellors were all identifiable with decks collapsed and being

reclaimed by the Atlantic Ocean.

Visibility was generally good, and temperatures in the mid-thirties made for a memorable week.

Conger eels were out in abundance, not all on the small size. Lobsters were an easy capture, but

only with the camera, as the area is a No Take Zone.

The dive centre was in the harbour providing cylinders with a Nitrox option.

We all took the Nitrox option given the depths and to maximise on bottom time.

The ten wrecks were a fraction of what is in the area and well worth a return visit in the future.

Staying at the Le Caravan`ile in luxury caravan style cabins.

Air conditioned, with a full kitchen, bathrooms, gas barbeque and patios with sun loungers.

The site backed on to a beach that stretched for miles, having a club house that served good food

and both indoor and outdoor pools. Ideal for families and partners wanting to combine a holiday

with diving.
