After being blessed with bank holidays, and beautiful weather 5 of the club members took the opportunity to get out on the water for a dive on the club RIB.
With an early start on Thursday (2nd June) preparing and launching the boat, getting it to the dock ready to be loaded with the days equipment.
(With special thanks to PO and MA always putting in the effort to get everyone out on time and tending to the boat.)
Once at the pontoon members all loaded on equipment, and planning to take extra equipment needed each and remain out on the sea for all planned dives.
The dive site selected was the HMS Scylla , a royal navy frigate sunk as an artificial reef in 2004 off whitsand bay.
The 13m wide, 113m long ship offered fantastic sights to meet all onboard with depths ranging between 9m at the peak sinking to 23m to the sea bed.
Luck was in for the team being the only divers on the site, visibility was good, little drift and a water temperature of ~14 degrees.
Perfect conditions for one of the teams first wreck dives and enjoyed by all.
HMS Scylla - 50° 19′ 39.3″ N, 4° 15′ 9.72″ W
Eddystone Lighthouse -
50° 10′ 48″ N, 4° 15′ 54″ W
Friday, second day of diving conditions were perfect for the team to venture further afield to the Eddystone lighthouse, a first at the sight for many of the team.
The site sits ~9 statue miles out at sea requiring a short journey on the rib, the site offering ranging depths and amazing wildlife.
Contrasting the day before on the HMS Scylla, the good weather had attracted significantly more other diving boats.
Visibility was still good, water temperature at 12 degrees was comfortable but with slightly more swell compared to the days before meant for being washed around the site a little more than previous calmer days diving. However still providing great conditions to see beautiful wildlife the site has to offer.
